accessing sdcard on beaglebone black

Hello,
I just got my first beaglebone black. Having a hard time accessing microsd card. Nothing seems to happen when I insert the card.

I tried

`
ssh root@beaglebone.local

dmesg | tail -20

Not sure how to proceed, as seems sd card is a must for os installation or upgrade.
