We have a Google Summer of Code project that will wrap-up soon that provides a cross-platform (Linux/Mac/Windows) GUI app that boots a BeagleBone from ROM (ie., no flash/SD content dependency), turns the flash into a mass-storage device and allows you to write to it.
There are some known issues, but I’d like to get some straight-up feedback as the app is presented on its github page. Check it out!

Please file issues on the respective github project issue tracker. You can also notify us of issues or ask for help on this thread. (BTW, Windows users, one of those known issues mentioned in the e-mail below will keep it from working for you, but I’d still like some feedback, including how this failure should be properly presented to you.)
