Finally have Wifi working on my BBB after playing around with a few USB wifi adapters I had laying around the house! Turns out the Atheros AR9170 based adapters work beautifully with Angstrom. The only thing I noticed was that you have to boot the bone with the adapter plugged in for it to work. It won’t work with plugging it in once the system is up and running. The kernel module is built in to Angstrom by default but I needed to have the firmware installed in /lib/firmware. I followed the quick tutorial here,
reboot, and voila! I now have working Wifi. Now to just find a smaller adapter based on this chipset as the WNDA3100v1 I have plugged into the bone just looks goofy hanging off the end of it.
