I just installed this image BeagleBone Black Debian 13.3 2026-01-22 IoT (v6.18.x) on the old 2GB eMMC BeagleBone Black. When I got in it asked me to change my password. When I change the password I get the error “Authentication token manipulation error”. Then it asks me to change my password again. Why is this happening?
Please tell me you aren’t trying to flash it to the eMMC… Thinking out of space…
I was trying to flash the eMMC because that is the way I have always used the device. I have been running this board for more than 10 years, which is fantastic. Since I run Debian on it I have had to just upgrade the OS when a new version comes out. Chrony would not run because I was using kernel version 4.19. I installed a newer kernel using apt then it would not boot anymore. I forget to connect the serial cable to view the boot process to see what happened. I got the latest Debian image and tried to flash it to the eMMC. What do you think should I do now?
Just run from the microSD.
