Battery cape in smoke

I recently got a battery cape and when i put in the batteries on the single wing the entire board started smoking.

It didn’t affect my beaglebone, but I am not sure why this happened and I don’t know to go about asking for an rma.

You may have put them in backwards. Did you check the battery polarity?

I don’t believe that I did, but I know that one chip on the board looks to have bubbled.

I think its the eeprom.

Is their no protection circuitry for that kind of mistake if something like that happens?
although I am pretty sure i did put them in properly.

EEPROM is not connected at all to the battery. It is totally separate.

Something else may have gone wrong.

I would request am RMA from the beagleboardtoys folks.
