BBB, embedded linux and ottawa hardware meetup group

for folks in the ottawa area, i stumbled over (and attended) my
first meeting of the ottawa hardware meetup group last night:

http://www.meetup.com/Ottawa-Hardware-Meetup-Group/

only 6 attendees as we were competing against the senators hockey game
(a sport i am monstrously uninterested in, so i can report only that
the senators were playing, um, calgary. or maybe san jose. possibly
manchester united.)

i took along my BBB, which was the hit of the get-together. this is
a collection of apparently hard-code hackers who are interested in,
among other things, embedded linux and its applications.

a couple people had RF expertise, another was currently working with
the altera de2-115 dev kit:

http://www.altera.com/education/univ/materials/boards/de2-115/unv-de2-115-board.html

so i suggested it might be useful if people working with specific
boards each offer to give a "this board 101" lecture as to how to get
the board up and running and build at least the basic OS for it, and
that seemed to go over well. i expect the next meeting to be better
attended, and i think it can provide a focal point for folks in the
ottawa interested in linux on ARM who want to chat with like-minded
techies.

two of the attendees already made it clear they want their own BBBs
now, so i can keep the list posted as to the next meeting and topic.
at the moment, there doesn't seem to be any embedded linux-specific
interest group in downtown ottawa, so this might change that.

Rob, I assume you've found OCLUG already: http://oclug.on.ca/

Surely they would have some interested in the Embedded Linux world.

Robert,

I'm from Montral, just to inform you that, last night, your Senators just
eliminated
our team, The_Montreal_Canadiens, from the season playoff.
So, congrats, and good luck for the next round...
well I mean for the next Hardware-Meetup-Group!
