BBB gpio inputs from 3V3 power

Hi,
I am new to BBB world, excuse me if my questions are crazy
I understand the BBB gpio inputs are designed for 3V3 supply (except few Analogue inputs with 1.8V)

What will happen if i connect to 5V by accidental, a gpio_input to 5Volts through a 1K resister, , () 5v<–//////-> gpio-input

BOOM

It's damaged, while some parts may 'work' eventually, it'll completely fry..

Right. The magic smoke will escape and your Beagle will die. Don't do that.
Level shifters are really cheap:
