bbb: No VCC (3.3V) on J1 (debug UART)?

Hello,

Pin 3 on J1 isn't connected to VCC (3.3V) on the Beaglebone Black.

Is that by intention or did that just got missed?

The problem is, that this makes it impossible to use something which needs power (in my case a RN-42) without wiring 3.3V to J1 Pin 3.

Maybe that's worth a change in the next revision.

That is totally on purpose. I decided blowing up the processor was not something I wanted to do by allowing people to plug in the cable when the processor was not powered on. That pin puts output voltage from the cable and having that voltage fight with the 3.3V rail on the board, well that is an issue.

So, i will not be making the change you suggested,

Gerald

Ah, thanks. I've read it the other way around and thought the 3.3v are there to provide 3.3v for the ftdi (I have none).

So you are right to refuse it.

No problem. just wanted to explain all the aspects around it.
