BEAGLE BOARD IS GETTING VERY HOT...

Hi,

I am using beagle board xm using usb power. I was driving external
circuitry using GPIO pins on expansion connector. suddenly i find that
U7 of the board, i.e. TPS65950 is getting very hot and the messages on
the minicom has stopped.

I think i have made a mess. Please suggest a method to salvage my
BB.... pleaseeeee

Where do you power your external circuit from? Could you provide a schmeatic of the external circuity?

First wild guess: Your circuity is powered by VIO_1V8, right?

Ueli

external circuit has separate power supply of 1.8V

It interfaces with an FPGA using level translators

it interfaces means BB interfaces with FPGA using level translators using expansion connector

Ground is common? Because it should be a max of 1.8V referring to the common ground.

Thank you,

Johnson

I think you have blown up the processor which could have been caused by:

-an overvoltage event on the I/O pins which are 1.8V
-Driving an out pin
-The power rails of the FPGA and the I/O rail need to be the same. That is why the 1.8V is provided on the connector.
-You may also have power sequencing issue.issues as well.

Sounds like your design may be a board killer.

I suggest you request an RMA and see if it can be fixed.

Gerald

both the power rails are same… due to the usage of GPIO pins on expansion connector, the current drawn from the board has been more than 500mA and since the board was powered using USB OTG, I think the power IC has got damaged…

I do not think it is overvoltage.

By the way the processor is not getting heated, nor the memory but the power management IC…

How do I go for an RMA??? I do not have any idea…

Thanks GERALD

yes it is common w/o doubt …

very-very funny video! ))))
anyway the whole factory looks like garage with the respective mess around

That was their old building back in the day!
