Beagle Wlan adapter

Hi guys!

Does any one know when Beagle WLAN adapter be available for
purchasing? I can see it at the Beagleboardtoys.com but the link is
not available.

Right now we they are looking for SW support on it from TI. TI failed to provide support as promised. Until that happens, it will not be sold. Supposedly there is progress on that front, but nothing solid. It was sold for a shor time, but with no support, it was pulled.

Gerald

Gerald,

does design represented on the picture at beagleboardtoys work or not?

Yes. It does work. But only on 3.0. At the time of the initial release 3.0 was not ready and there are no drivers for the earlier versions of the kernel.

Gerald

Gerald, and what is wrong with 3.0 if it works? Why don't you release
the board with 3.0 and wifi will just work?

Does it have the WL1271 chip under the hood like the other wifi modules from LS Research?

They may do it. But there are other issues involved like being able to get the WIFI modules. You need them in order to be able to build the boards. I will check with them.

Gerald

Yes. And, they do have about 10 boards and I convinced them to start selling them again.

Gerald

Gerald,

unveil the secret: is WL1271 connected to BB as defined here?
http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/OMAP35x_Wireless_Connectivity_Solution_Hardware#WLAN_Configuration

I don’t know. I was not involved in its creation.

Gerald

Since I could not buy one of these boards, I wired up the same LSR module on a veroboard using the circuit used on the Beagle Wlan and the WL12xx driver in 3.04 worked fine.

Regards,

John

Hello John!

Can you share a scheme how you connected LSR module to BB? I have a
vew LSR modules but don't know how to connect them to BB-xM.

HI,

Could you tell me what USB wifi dongle you are using on BeagleBoard-xM. Please tell me because i am going to buy it.

Thanks

Does anybody know if it is necessary to provide 32kHz clock source to
Tiwi-R2 module? It is stated in the datasheet but I'm not sure that it
is a demand.

Thanks!

Since I could not buy one of these boards, I wired up the same LSR module on
a veroboard using the circuit used on the Beagle Wlan and the WL12xx driver

John, is the veroboard running Linux, or are you running C directly on
the processor with no OS?

I guess there is no open source driver available. So Linux is the only option

Hello John!

I followed the BeagleBoard Wlan schematic. You need a 3.3V voltage regulator
and a 32.768KHz oscillator. The LSR module will not respond without the
32.768KHz oscillator. The veroboard is just a 1.25mm pitch prototype board
and I used 30 AWG wire to connect the LSR module to the board. I have about
5mm between the LSR module and the prototype board since the holes on the
board don't line up with the LSR module. I hope this helps.

Yes, you will need this clock or else the LSR module will not respond.

Thanks!

John, is the veroboard running Linux, or are you running C directly on
the processor with no OS?

The veroboard is a 1.25mm prototype board used to connect the LSR module to
the Beagle-xM expansion connector.

Hey John!

Thanks a lot for such great instructions!
