Hi Charles,
Check for the concept of dummy codecs. These are codecs that don't do
anything but just register with the ASoC. You can then proceed with
outputting I2S and it should just work provided your SPI codec is
configured correctly.
Why not a copy of one of the codecs though and fill in the gaps for SPI?
