[beagleboard] Is support fpr omap3/DM37xx abandoned by texas? Is support for beagleboard drepped in general?

I would like to connect to this discussion. As for me I have to admit
the lack of software support for the BeagleBoard. I remember days when
Angstrom did things flawlessly but now you better forget about
Angstrom and use Ubuntu (Angstrom is dead I guess). Android from TI
(rowboat) is crap, just a simple demonstration of how it can work, but
not how it should.

My 2 cents.
I have not been around this list for long, but i would say if your
need is to rebuild booloader/kernel - the cleanest scripts/setup i
found from Robert Nelson for Ubuntu.

Thanks Robert

Development on newer boards has certainly had an impact on Angstrom
releases for older boards, but it is certainly quite possible to get
the new stuff up-and-running on the BeagleBoard and BeagleBoard-xM
without jumping through too many hoops. I get a lot of pressure from
educators on this, so it'll certainly be my focus to bring it all
up-to-par with BeagleBone support within the next 2 months. With the
additional support we are trying to bring in for development on
BeagleBone, I think we'll die under the pressure if the BeagleBoard
and BeagleBoard-xM aren't running all the same code. I'm not sure why
such negative comments given the support that is there when building
your own Angstrom, but a refreshed image release is definitely due.

Agree that Robert is doing an amazing job of supporting Ubuntu on all
Beagle* targets.

Do you have any specifics here that I can provide as feedback?

in this case “old” does not mean outdated, since beagleboard xm is superior to beaglebone in several ways.

Although, with the Bone, it's really nice to not have the Ethernet
Interface tied directly to the USB subsystem.

Regards,

the same is true for the xm

LOL! Look again...

The Ethernet on the xM is provided by the smsc95xx usb 2.0 4 port hub
and Ethernet... Directly connected to the xM's ehci port..

So when the USB goes down, so does your network..

Regards,

I don’t understand the negative comments. I’m currently working with stuff that runs on the Bb-xm, current bone, and new bone. Our community, including the guys from TI, is very supportive on all of the Beagles.
