[beagleboard] shutdown command in RevC

I would like to powerdown my RevC beagleboard using the shutdown
command just like on a regular desktop PC. However when I issue the
shutdown command, it just reboots the beagleboard. I have tried both:

"shutdown -h now" and "poweroff"

Note that these commands work successfully on my RevB6 and RevB7
boards but it causes a reboot instead of shutdown on my RevC board.
Any ideas? I am running angstrom Linux-2.6.29-r50.

Thanks,
Saladino.

Whats your distro?

Here on Ubuntu 10.04, this works fine, but on Ubuntu 9.10 this reboots too.

I am running Angstrom.

# uname -a
Linux beagle20 2.6.29-omap1 #1 PREEMPT Sat Dec 19 16:43:42 EST 2009
armv7l GNU/Linux

Thanks,
Saladino.

I noticed the same thing until I upgraded to 2.6.32.

I would just like to report that my Angstrom on 2.6.32 does respond to
the powerdown command by shutting down the OS, but the power
consumption as measured in voltage over the resistor only drops from
~50mV to ~30mV. So it seems the CPU is still running after it has
halted.

I would also be interested in a solution to this that would require
less power after the shutdown has been performed.

Tallak

I tried Angstrom 2.6.32 an a RecV3 and it did powerdown without
rebooting so that is great. However similar to Tallak's experience, I
did not see a significant drop in power consumption. I measured a
current draw of ~216mA after shutdown. The kernel/uboot/bootloader
used was:
    Texas Instruments X-Loader 1.4.2 (Feb 19 2009 - 12:01:24)
    U-Boot 2009.11 (Feb 23 2010 - 15:33:48)
    Board revision C1/C2/C3
    Image Name: Angstrom/2.6.32/beagleboard

I would also be interested in a solution to this that would require
less power after the shutdown has been performed.

This appears to have been true for the RevB boards. I measured a
current draw of ~72mA on RevB5 after the powerdown command. The kernel/
uboot/bootloader used was:
    Texas Instruments X-Loader 1.4.2 (Apr 23 2009 - 18:44:10)
    U-Boot 2009.11-rc1 (Jan 08 2010 - 21:19:52)
    Board revision Ax/Bx
    Image Name: Linux-2.6.29-omap1

Thanks.
