[beagleboard] uImages on angstrom-distribution.org/demo

I have tried uImage, uImage-2.6.26-r64-beagleboard.bin, and
uImage-2.6.32-r72+gitrdc94d8db03fc6c5918960ebf069cfc81e5998665-beagleboard.bin
from http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beagleboard/. I can't get any of them
to boot. I have tried them on two different SD cards formatted through two different
readers. Is there anyone that can confirm that these images are good? I typically get
a kernal panic "kernel not syncing" when booting.

I was able to borrow a 2.6.32 uImage from a friend that was about a month old and it
seems to fix my problems.

Bill

We really need more info on your setup, like the actual error message, xloader version, uboot version, beagleboard rev, etc, etc ,etc. See http://catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

There's a premade sd card image available at http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beagleboard/untested/ that boots on all my beagles.

Koen

BeagleBoard: C2
X-Loader: Texas Instruments X-Loader 1.4.2 (Feb 19 2009 - 12:01:24)
U-Boot: U-Boot 2010.03-rc1 (Mar 25 2010 - 20:42:17)
uImage: Angstrom/2.6.32/beagleboard

I am currently not getting the kernel panic error. I am not able to boot that far. I am now
reaching "Uncompressing Linux.............." and the boot hangs. Using a current uImage
as described in my first email, results in the following:

- First boot: boots with no problems to root prompt
- Second boot: boots into a kernel panic (specifically, the kernel not syncing) (I am currently
unable to reproduce this problem without reimaging my SD).
- Third through present boots: The boot process hangs while uncompressing the kernel.

Can anyone confirm that these images on http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beagleboard/, specifically
uImage-2.6.32-r72+gitrdc94d8db03fc6c5918960ebf069cfc81e5998665-beagleboard.bin are good images. I have
another 2.6.32 image that works fine that was downloaded from the same location roughly a month ago.

It looks like you need to upgrade your MLO and u-boot. The set in the demo directory work fine on B6 and C3 beagles.

I tried the image at http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beagleboard/untested
on a RevC3 board with no luck. It appears to get stuck in u-boot.
Changing to an older u-boot fixed it and it booted fine. The same
thing happened with the images at http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/demo/beagleboard

Here is a screen dump:

The u-boot image that worked for me was: http://beagleboard.googlecode.com/files/u-boot-revc4.bin
U-Boot 2009.11 (Feb 23 2010 - 15:33:48)

Is this u-boot image truly broken or am I missing something?

Thanks.

As pointed out before, you need xloader 1.4.4 for the new uboot. It seems to be loading 1.4.2 from nand.

Koen

I too had this issue with my rev C2 board. I had MLO 1.4.2 and an
older uImage in nand.
For me even the user button would not allow me to boot from SD as it
kept pulling up
Texas Instruments X-Loader 1.4.2 from nand.
Doing as Koen suggests here does resolve the problem. Another
#beagle user, cwillu
suggested I do this last week and I ever so reluctantly did. Now boots
fine.

I updated to xloader 1.4.4 in nand and it all works well now.

Thanks.
