[beagleboard] Why do the LCD capes need transceivers when voltage levels match?

They are not level shifters. They are buffers. They increase the drive strength of the signal and cleans up the signal.The length and added capacitance of the second PCB will make for a very ugly display otherwise.

I see. I had forgotten the term buffer had an electrical definition as well, I had been thinking of some kind of sequential/data buffer. Thank you for answering my trivial question.
