Beagleboard-XM kernel 2.6.39 problem

Hi guys,

I just got the OMAP kernel source version 2.6.39-rc7. After building
the uImage with omap2plus_defconfig, I generated the uImage. But when
booting beagleboard-XM with this image, the output over serial shows:

2995664 bytes read
Booting from mmc ...
## Booting kernel from Legacy Image at 82000000 ...
   Image Name: Linux-2.6.39-rc7-09518-g7947eb6
Image Type: ARM Linux Kernel Image (uncompressed)
   Data Size: 2995600 Bytes = 2.9 MiB
   Load Address: 80008000
   Entry Point: 80008000
   Verifying Checksum ... OK
   Loading Kernel Image ... OK
OK

Starting kernel ...

Uncompressing Linux... done, booting the kernel.

Then the board hangs. Are there anyone who can give me some hints
about what happened? I have configured to output the kernel message
from ttyS02. Or some patches I missed? Thank you very much.

It may be really easy to figure out the issue if you can share your bootarg here.Seems like your kenel is booting without any issues.
So it’s related to your RootFs or wrong bootarg.

Where is your RoofFS?Form Nand Or Sdcard?

Hi Ray,

Try this patch (2.6.39-rc7):

Isn’t it ttyO2 for the new kernels?

configured to output the kernel message
from ttyS02

I suppose that is a typo, right?

You know it is ttyO2

Sorry, I didn't mention that the previous patch is for new cross-
compiler Sourcery G++ Lite 2011.03-41. The old one compiles 2.6.39
without alignment issues.

If you suspect a toolchain issue, you should report this issue here: http://www.codesourcery.com/archives/arm-gnu/maillist.html

Yep, already reported.

Thank all of you guys' help. I just found the reason. It is very
foolish - there is a TYPO in the bootargs u-boot passed to the kernel.
Anyway, thank you guys again.
