BeagleBone Black Availability

I went to order a couple more BeagleBone Blacks, but I can't seem to
find any! Lots of folks show them expected back in stock sometime in
January, but I couldn't find any to actually buy.

Does anyone know of a US supplier with actual stock?

Did the BBB somehow become the "hot" must-have Christmas toy and I
didn't notice?

Someone or a bunch of someones, came in and bought up everything out there. We are shipping 3,000 boards a week. As you can see, there still is not stock. You might try Newark, I saw they may have some stock, but can’t say how accurate that is.

And yes, all our distributors reported a big uptick in demand. Unfortunately they did not plan for such an event. There is no history to fall back on so planning is hard to do.

I had one (one more) ordered from Mouser, they had predictions of delivery well into January, but I got it last week!
A nice Christmas present!
Try them.

I seems so.
And before anyone asks, NO I WILL NOT SELL THE ONES I HAVE.

Many thanks and happy season greetings to all the guys behind the BeagleBone!

Paulo Ferreira

Wow! Well congratulations to beagleboard.org!

I knew you were building these in pretty good volume, so I was surprised
to see everyone out of stock at the same time. Sounds like someone must
have wanted a *LOT* of boards. Perhaps the guy with the red hat, or
maybe someone figured out how to use the GPU to do bitcoin mining?

I know that Radio Shack had some a few days ago but you may want hold off on buying one from them because they are asking $89.99 for what seems to be a really bare kit.

-Wil

Yes, that is where some of them went, into the Make kit the Radio Shack sells.

Gerald

We are not in a position to build up thousands of boards and let them just sit on our shelves. So, we rely on our distributors to tells us how many to ship and when. We work our production around that information. Everyone was caught off guard with the sudden burst of “demand”

Gerald

I vote that Charles go to the front of the line given the number of people
he has helped in this group

I know he has helped me personally and I will always be grateful for all
the help he has given me.

Regards,
John

*blush*

I'm glad I was able to help, but it's a community effort. I know a lot
of other folks here have helped me!

And I've actually got three blacks on-hand, plus a couple of whites, so
I'm OK for now. I'm just building more things to control with LinuxCNC
on the Beaglebone, and will soon have more CNC machines than BeagleBone
Blacks, so need to get a few more sometime. The current tally is:

* MendelMax printer (working)
* Mini-Kossel (moving, not yet printing)
* Wally (build in progress)
* GUS Simpson (just finished printing the parts)
* Shapeoko V2 (still in box)

I just put in an order with Mouser and let them get back-ordered. I'll
manage if they don't show up until January.

I would agree. But I can’t seem to find the lines, much less where the front is.

Gerald

I just got my two boards from Mouser that were scheduled to ship on Jan.
20 (next Monday). So delivery wasn't too bad at about four weeks.
Anyone who thinks this is a serious availability problem doesn't
remember the initial shipments of the Raspberry Pi!

I also notice the "on-order" numbers for everywhere that lists them seem
to be going up significantly, so I suspect the secret is getting out as
everyone figures out how cool the BBB really is. Kudos to Gerald and
the team for a great design!

There were several reasons for what is going on. But, it translates to increased demand that was not anticipated by the distributors or Circuitco.

Gerald
.

Hi there!

We’re desperately trying to acquire some BBBs for an urgent project, but both Mouser, Farnell and Digi-key seem to be still empty-handed and waiting for stock.

Are there any news or availability forecasts at this point?

Cheers!
Ismael

We are shipping boards as you can see, so it all depends on how deep the back orders are at the distributors. You will need to ask the distributor how deep their backlog is when you get ready to place the order.

Arrow shows 805 boards in stock, so you might try there.

Gerald

Ismael,

special computing has a good stock of black currently - https://specialcomp.com/beaglebone/index.htm

Dave

Hello Charles,

have you made any progress on your BBB and ShapeOko? This is exactly what I am trying to achieve and was looking for some people that have made some progress.

Thanks.

Pino.

Only in the general sense of pushing forward progress with LinuxCNC on
the BeagleBone in general.

Specifically, my Shapeoko V2 is still in the box <gasp> and I've been
working on getting the hardware setup so in can be understood and
implemented without cross-referencing 5 different ways of referring to
the GPIO pins and editing custom device-tree overlays.

I do know of a couple folks who have run Shapeoko machines with the
BeagleBone, so it's mostly just getting a configuration setup for your
specific hardware, and deciding how you want to handle the gantry setup
(ignore it and run two motors in parallel, use gantrykins, or hack HAL
to drive two motors off one motion axis).
