Beaglebone black control using Matlab

I am trying to establish a link to BBB using Matlab command prompt. The goal is to use existing scripts but have the ability to control the GPIO using Matlab.

Does anyone know how to do that? I have been able to locate it using the serial connections. Has anyone else been able to control the BBB using Matlab? I use Matlab R 2012
