BeagleBone Black Not Powering On – No LEDs or Response

Hello,

I am facing an issue with my BeagleBone Black board, which is currently not powering on at all. I have tried several troubleshooting and boot methods, but so far I have not received any response from the board.

The following are the steps I have already tried:

  1. USB power:
I connected the BeagleBone Black using the USB cable and attempted to power it normally. The board does not appear to power on.

  2. External 5V power supply:
I also tried powering the board using a separate 5V, 2A power supply through the appropriate power input. There was still no response.

  3. Power button:
I tried using the board’s Power button to turn it on, but this did not produce any response.

  4. Boot/S2 button method:
I inserted the SD card, held down the BOOT/S2 button, and then applied power while continuing to hold the button. The board still did not boot.

  5. Long press of the Power button:
I also tried holding the Power button for approximately 10 seconds, but there was no response.

  6. SD card:
I checked the SD card and its contents, and I do not believe there is an issue with the SD card itself. I have also attempted the boot procedure with the SD card inserted.

At the moment, the board appears to show no response regardless of the boot method or power source used.

Could you please help me determine what I might be doing incorrectly, or whether this indicates a possible hardware problem with the BeagleBone Black?

In particular, I would like to know:

  • Is there any additional power-on or recovery procedure that I should try?

  • Is there a way to determine whether the PMIC or processor is receiving power?

  • Are there specific voltage test points that I can measure with a multimeter to determine where the problem is?

  • Is there a recommended procedure for checking whether the eMMC bootloader is corrupted?

  • If both USB power and a known-good 5V/2A external supply produce no LEDs or activity, could this indicate a PMIC, power rail, or board-level hardware failure?

  • Is there any additional diagnostic procedure I can perform before considering the board defective?

Please let me know what measurements or additional information you require from my side. I can check voltages with a multimeter and provide photographs of the board if necessary.

Thank you.

As always, the recommended first step is to check if all the expected voltages are available at their respective places.

Then connect your debug header as described here.

If you have an Oscilloscope,
you can also consider using that to see if you get anything at the TX pin.
