Beaglebone Black on PocketNC - Monitor conection

Hello,

I have a PocketNC with a Beaglebone Black.

Like many, I am having trouble connecting to the Beaglebone Black from OSX 10.11.x El Cap.
(we replace the Beaglebone Black once already for other issues)
I was able to connect after the replaced board, but that was on OSX 10.8.5.
On 10.11.6 I still cant connect after days of trying every suggestion at PocketNC and Beagle support.

So I thought I would attempt the apparently simpler route of directly connecting a monitor, mouse and keyboard to the Beaglebone.

Mouse and keyboard work fine thru a USB 2.0 hub, but the Monitor doesnt display correctly.
I am using an older Dell 2001FP (which Beagle Support says “should” work) and the display resolution of 1280x1024@60 is supposedly supported by Beaglebone Black.

Beagle support pages mention that there are HDMI cable problems.

I am connecting the Dell via DVI_D to HDMI (not micro).
Is this the wrong choice?
Should I be using a Sub-D to HDMI Micro? DVI-D to HDMI Micro?

Does this image give anybody any hints as to where I might look to solve problem?

Thank you in advance

I’m very open to other thoughts, but it makes me think there is an issue with the cable. Have you tried a good quality microHDMI-to-HDMI cable plugged directly into the BeagleBone Black?

I typically use a micro-HDMI to HDMI cable, then an HDMI to DVI-D
adapter, but as long as you've got micro-HDMI on one end and DVI-D (or
HDMI, whichever your monitor supports) on the other you should be OK.

Should I be using a Sub-D to HDMI Micro?

No, the BeagleBone doesn't output analog video, so it won't hook to a
15-pin VGA D-Sub connector.

DVI-D to HDMI Micro?

Should work.

It looks like maybe a bad cable or connection, or possibly a video
format the monitor doesn't like. I'd try forcing something really
common, like 1024x768 or even plain VGA 640x480 using the uEnv.txt
file. Since the BeagleBone isn't connecting, you can edit this file
on another Linux system (probably even your Mac) if use an SD card reader.

Personally, I never like connecting to the 'Bone via USB and always
run either stand-alone with a KB/Monitor connected, or connect via the
wir`ed Ethernet port. Worst case, you can hook a serial cable up to
the console port on the BBB and assign it a fixed IP address.

It was the HDMI to HDMI micro that is attached to the Beaglebone for the PocketNC.
I opened the PocketNC to see if that cable was loose or had come out.
It was in, so I pushed it in harder and it didnt seem to move.

But that fixed it.

Thanx all

Glad to hear it's working!

I don't like the typically large and heavy HDMI to micro-HDMI
connector hanging off of the BeagleBone. I'm always afraid I'm going
to yank the HDMI connector off the 'Bone by accident (I'm clumsy!) and
the size can interfere with the uSD slot and USB connector.

I keep a few of these on-hand in various lengths instead:
