Beaglebone is heating up very fast

I have worked with 8-bit pic and 32-bit cortex m3 and they have never warmed up, not even a little bit. That’s why I was so surprised.

Different world! These are closer to what you find in an IPAD than a PIC. They run at 720MHZ and actually have multiple cores in them that by themselves will run a PIC into the ground. Plus you have other parts on the board that generate heat, such as the DDR2 memory, the USB to serial, Ethernet PHY, USB hub, and more. It all adds up.
