Fair point, it would be something like a shell you could slip the board into that would look and have the capacities of your average smart phone , but you would still be able to add on devices and what not, something like this…
Where you could then make the same hardware into a smartphone, tablet, television client, laptop, et al.

the hardware design for the original beaglebone and the new beaglebone black are very robust and specifically designed to assist in prototyping and/or proof-of-concept devices.
the beaglebone black would make a good platform for you to evaluate for this type of product.
