Hey all,
Another possible GSOC project that I think would be really interesting is the development of a fully-featured linux-based graphing calculator using the BBB.
A breadboard cape, LCD (perhaps color and touch capacitive?), and series of push buttons could be used to build a prototype akin to the TI-NSpire, but running a specialized version of linux underneath.
Would anybody be interested in mentoring something like this?
Thanks!
Trevor
What does 'specialized' mean in this context? Are you planning on running an TI calc emulator or is this a "from scratch" project?
regards,
Koen
Hi Koen,
This would be a “from scratch” project – possibly taking advantage of some open-source mathematics software already available (like gnuplot, octave or R).

Can you inspire us a bit more on what this project would be? Advancing an existing project seems far more fruitful than inventing your own, in my opinion. What advantage would a Beagle-based calculator have over an existing calculator or computer that would justify whatever additional hardware purchases might be required to put it together?
Hi Jason,
I have to concede that I agree with you on this project. I have therefore put my efforts into my original proposal, and have been able to attract support for it. If you would like to have a look at it, I would be happy to answer any questions about it.
