Begal Board - MMC/SD Interface

Hello,

I am Amol from Tata Elxsi Ltd. Already Mr. Ajat is communicating with you.

I was going through Beagle Board BB HRM_B4 pdf file.

I did not see any interface for

            1. Video Input (from say surveillance camera)

            2. Ethernet interface

As this board supports HS USB 2.0 OTG interface and also MMC/SD interface,

Is it possible that, we connect say webcam to MMC/SD interface and have
USB-to-Ethernet Adaptor connected to USB OTG connector?

If not suggest suitable interfaces for say Webcam and Ethernet adaptor.

Where can I download BSP, List of Supported OS and Drivers for this board?
Is it freely available or need to develop on our own.

This is very Urgent and appreciate your early feedback.

With Regards,

Amol T

You can use USB camera, I have tested Logitech's V-aux16, the UVC
drivers for these are openly available and are also integrated in
latest GIT kernel.

            2. Ethernet interface

Use USB to Ethernet dongle, most of them available in the market work
fine. The drivers are integrated into the kernel itself.

Hello Kashim,

Thanks for reply.

As you said both Camera and Ethernet can be connected to USB interface, But if I use it like that will it not hamper performance.

  1. Get Camera video data over USB

  2. Transmit it over Ethernet which is again on USB

  3. Receive Video data from Ethernet

  4. Transfer it to Video out

  5. All this with audio data as well

Considering this I was thinking whether Ethernet can be connected to MMC/SD interface of the board?

Sounds like you might want a board with a direct camera interface, so that you
can DMA to video memory. Might also want a DMA-capable ethernet controller.

The OMAP 35xx chip is probably the right one for you, but the hardware on the
Beagleboard doesn't take advantage of it the way that you need. Look at the
more-expensive SDKs, they'll export more hardware interfaces so that you can get
at them.

Considering this I was thinking whether Ethernet can be connected to MMC/SD
interface of the board?

You mean like with SDIO?

b.g.

Yes connecting Ethernet Adaptor to SDIO, and Camera to USB interface?

I think camera can be connected to SDIO and Ethernet to USB, but you
should develop or get SDIO Camera support. I doubt it is part of
kernel.

You can even explore Davinci platforms like DM355 or DM644x, I think
DM360 will be really useful for such applications.

Hi Khasim,
Thanks for this input. I will get back to you in case of further queries.

I searched for V-aux16, but could not find a seller. Please let me
know if you have some link.

It is logitech v-uax16, you should be able to get more latest of these.

V-uax16 seems to be obsolate. Has anyone tested any other cam?

Nazmul

I think similar cameras in this series should work fine.
