Blacklisting modules

Hello all. What is the proper method of blacklisting drivers? I have created /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and added the lines:

blacklist rtl2830
blacklist dvb_usb_rtl28xxu

lsmod still shows them as loaded. I renamed the file to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf and it did not work either.

I created two files dvb_usb_rtl28xxu.conf and rtl2830.conf in /etc/modprobe.d/ which contain the lines:

blacklist (driver)

None of that works either. How can I prevent rtl2830 and dvb_usb_rtl28xxu from being loaded? I’m trying to use a RTL2832U based stick and those two drivers prevent it from operating. I can manually remove them with modprobe -r but that is not permanent. At this point I’m ready to delete the driver files themselves.
