Boot from USB external drive or eSATA

Hello,

I just purchased an X15 and the EMMC memory is rapidly filling up. I would like to do one of two things…

  1. Boot directly from an external hard drive via USB and bypass EMMC
  2. Boot from eSATA

Questions…

  1. Is it possible to boot directly from USB and if so how?
  2. Are there more detailed directions on changing boot sequence than those provided in the reference manual?
The directions in the reference manual are very vague. Unsolder resistor and re-solder - schematic provided but vague. What resistor? Where are the resistors on the board? There are blank perforated holes on the board where the jumpers are referred to - no resistors. . What are the values for the resistors in ohms? Do I need to supply my own resistors? This is not very intuitive at all. I have some basic electronics knowledge and know how to use resistors and work with soldering components. Why would you design such a great board and leave the only way to change the boot sequence to removing and adding components to the PC board. How about a simple removable jumper! I’m really not happy with this one.
  3. Can you set up the board to boot off the EMMC and have the rest of the OS (debian) on an external drive via USB?

I tried a google search but there really is not much out there on the X15

Thanks

MAB
