Booting Linux on the BeagleBoard-xM

Hi,
I follow the procedure. When I pulled out the system SD (came with the board), the system hung. I could not format a new 4G SD on BeagleBoard because of this. Do I need a PC with Linux system to format the target SD with mkcard.txt?

Thanks,
Jim

You should not pull the SD card out. The card will in most case be corrupted. There is no need to pull the card out.

What is the revision of the BeagleBoard-xM?

Yes, you will need a PC to create a new SD card.

Gerald,
Thank you for your reply. So I need a PC with Linux system to format
the target 4G micro SD. The version is xM Rev C, the latest.

You won’t need Linux or mkcard.txt to rebuild the SD card. You can use the Ubuntu ImageWriter from Windows using the SD card image at http://circuitco.com/support.

You can also do it on a windows PC using Imagewriter…
