Build/Download Directories

Hi All

I have been building Angstrom Distribution images for a few months
now, however I have a few questions.

I have followed instructions on the eLinux Beginers guide (http://
elinux.org/BeagleBoardAndOpenEmbeddedGit). I issue a 'git pull' before
each build.

I would like to know why the location of the build tends to alternate?
In my user area I have a directory 'oe' within which I have an
'openembedded' directory.

Sometimes the bitbake downloads files and operates in /oe/tmp, while
at others it operates (and downloads) to /oe/openembedded/tmp.

This has led to me downloading and compiling the sources twice, even
though the sources haven't actually changed in the interrim - the
change in directory causing the system to think the download is
needed. This actually makes sence as the directories do not have the
same files.

Secondly, which directories within tmp are safe to remove/delete - due
in part to the duplication, I am running out of space. I would like to
keep the deploy directory - to keep an archive of previously built
images.

Hope this makes sence.

Thanking you in advance.

Set the TMPDIR variable in local.conf.

Mine is

TMPDIR = "${HOME}/oe/tmp"

This drove me insane the first couple of months I used OE :slight_smile:

I have just checked my local.conf

It is currently set as

TMPDIR = “${OE_HOME}/tmp”

where OE_HOME = “${HOME}/oe” is exported in a shell script, which I call before I do any work.

What I have done should make any difference should it? Assuming it doesn’t it should work just the same as what Philip said - however up until this point it still switches directory every so often.

Also check

DL_DIR = "${HOME}/oe_sources"

i may have skimmed your email to fast. I really should re-read it :slight_smile:
