Can't open esc-20100610.tar.bz2

I am trying to open esc-20100610.tar.bz2 but doesn't look like an
image file?

Did you try 'tar xvjf esc-20100610.tar.bz2'?

oh, great. now *everyone's* going to know how to do it.

rday

I tried using the 7-zip which unziped to about 3.4G and then used the
image writer but giving error says it is not img file!!

Below the instruction as on the BB site under ESC "Chicago 2011"

..........Please download the class 4GB microSD card image from
esc-20100610.tar.bz2. You can write it to your microSD card using a
USB adapter on your PC under Linux using dd ' ( bzcat
esc-20100610.tar.bz2 | dd of= /path/to/drive bs=8388608 ). Under
Windows, you can decompress the image using 7-zip and write it to a
microSD card using the graphical Ubuntu win32 image writer tool
documented on the Ubuntu help wiki.............

Thanks, I had forgotten that it really wasn't a tar file.

Can you give some details of the error presented? Did you try simply
renaming the file extension?

Because the file is a pure sector-by-sector disk image, I don't know
how the ImageWriter would know if it was valid or not.
