The display is about 1.5 Watts with the backlight. The whole system is
about 3.5 watts.

Is that over S-Video or DVI-D? Where did you get the small display?
It's the serial output. The serial-LCD converter is a PIC 18F452.
The display is a monochrome 240x128 dot matrix LCD, they are cheap,
can be bought in any electronics shop.
Sorry no awesome display technology here, but I like the retro-looks
of it.
