Connecting a TVP5150 - Is it possible?

Hi,

I would like to capture analog video (NTSC) with the beagleboard using TI’s TVP5150 ic.
It seems that there is a driver available to use that ic; but I can’t find information about how to connect it to the beagle and how to configure Linux to use it. Could someone kindle point me to some resources about this? Thanks in advance for your cooperation

best regards,
Pedro

It should work on the BeagleBoard-xM using the camera port. You will need to design a board that plugs into the camera port.

Hi Gerald,

Thanks for the fast response.
Please correct me if I am wrong: It’s not possible to connect the TVP5150 to the original Beagle, because the camera port is not available. So one should use Beagle-xM, right?

best regards,
Pedro

That is correct!

there is already one board that almost fits:

but you need to reroute some signals to make up for the
difference between the Leopardboard and the Beagle and
maybe tweak the power supply...

some IRC discussion around that:

http://www.beagleboard.org/irclogs/index.php?date=2011-04-19#T10:04:11

But, I forgot what the conclusion around using the LI-MOD03 with
the Beagle was, later IRC logs might tell

Hi Ignacio,

The IC TVP5150 is not not recommended for new designs and the Vdd I/O is 3.3 Volts therefore you’ll need a level shifter.

Perhaps It’ll be a best option to use the IC TVP5151, the TVP5151 has the option of use Vdd I/O with 1.8 Volts, and therefore you don’t need to use a level shifter of 3.3 Volts to 1.8 Volts.
