Cranky BBB

Hi - I just received a few of the latest BBBs. Great! Power it up, connect it to my router, check the assigned IP address, check it’s presence in the Web browser - all the BB intro stuff is there.

Then, pop over to a terminal, ssh root@, and I get: ssh_exchange_identification: read: Connection reset by peer Wow - that’s unfriendly. My old Beaglebone White welcomed me with open arms.

Any ideas as to what changed, and how to get in?

If you search the forums / groups here concerning this same issue you’ll find the fix. Basically from what I remember is has to do with a 0 byte dropbear key file or some such . . . but I do not use Angstrom so I could not advise personally.

Therein lies the rub. In order to delete the /etc/dropbear/dropbear_rsa_host_key file, I first need to log in. Going in through the Cloud9 console, I can only access things in the cloud9 tree. Cannot telnet or ssh in to the BBB via either USB or Ethernet interfaces. How do I get in?

Can you go in through the serial debug port?

Gerald

Sadly, I don’t have the appropriate cable.

I’ve tried telnet, ssh, and Cloud9 console via both USB or Ethernet, no go. I get the startup Web page and Cloud9 just fine. This is one of the latest batch (like last week?): BeagleBone Black rev 00A6 S/N 4713BBBK2106

Is perhaps my only option to burn an SD card, but then again, would that image be any different than that which is loaded into the EMMC? BTW, I’m on either a Mac or Linux host.

There’s got to be a way in!

yeah maybe get one of Robert Nelsons demo images that uses openssh-server, put it on an SD card, mount the eMMC, and delete the file.

Another “fix” or way to access as I recall was someone was talking about using root, or regular user account and somehow getting in without a passwd ? yeah sorry I cant do better than that, but its all i remember . …

rattus, anyhow as Gerald alluded to you could use a serial cable. AND if you plan on doing anything serious with the BBB you should really get one. It helps tons.
