Debian on Beagle - modprobe error?

Hi,

I am using Debian with beagleboard as per http://elinux.org/BeagleBoardDebian.

So far, things have been looking good. However, when I boot up, there is a message:

modprobe: FATAL: could not load /lib/modules/2.6.29-oer34/modules.dep No such file or directory

How do I get rid of this one?

hi

modprobe: FATAL: could not load /lib/modules/2.6.29-oer34/modules.dep No
such file or directory

probably your kernel does not match your rootfs.
the kernel modules generated from the version of your kernel should
match the one on your rootfs.

check your kernel version by using uname -r

You need to compile the modules and then copy them across. “make modules” will build the modules. I don’t remember off hand exactly where the modules.dep and all the .ko files are located – something like debian/modules.

Hi Radha,

You don't need to build anything, these modules are contained in
(linux-image-2.6.29-oer34_1.0$DISTRO_armel.deb).

Follow this section in the Debian install, replacing "lenny" in the
http link with what distribution you are using (lenny, squeeze, sid)

Have you installed the kernel modules for the kernel you are using?

How do I get rid of this one?

Yes, I did install the kernel modules last night and the see the error go away.

Thanks folks, for all the help!

My current state is this: I have a Debian installed (3 partitions - FAT32 for uImage, swap and the filesystem), wifi configured with D-Link DWA 110 (this was a big problem with Angstrom) and with all the other peripherals connected. The beagle is almost ready to move into my living room to join my TV and music system. I just need to mod up a regular USB cable to make it a USB to barrel jack adapter so I could power the beagle from USB hub directly (will reduce the number of power connections I need to power beagle in my living room).

Got to try GStreamer plugins from TI on Debian. Will post my query on that as a separate thread.
