Here is at least a little more info about why Digi-Key can’t ship the BeagleBoard to us poor sods who don’t live in the USA.
What is surprising is some postings where people say they were able to order the board from Digi-Key, from locations outside the US.
There were some give-aways to participants at trade-shows. I don’t believe anyone has gotten a Beagle Board from Digi-Key outside of the US.
This isn’t Digi-Key’s fault, they must follow regulations and I didn’t know about this issue until it was too late (live and learn).
On the good news side, I’ve heard that they will be testing their compliance with regulations tomorrow and will begin accepting orders outside of the US and Canada starting on this Friday (US time)!
I hope that this hasn’t upset anyone too much. Boards will continue to be shipped to Digi-Key throughout the week by their contract manufacturer, so don’t give up hope of having a board soon.
Hi all, does beagleboard.org have a forum somewhere? This egroup is fine for
basic communication but I'd rather ask questions and maintain a thread based
on a topic, wouldn't you agree?

It does not. Mostly because I personally don't like forums because I cannot e-mail to them. Yes, I know that is a personal issue. Also, no one else has promoted one.

For me, there is enough threading support on http://groups.google.com/group/beagleboard. I'm able to pin certain threads if they are of particular interest. Once there is more traffic, then I suspect we'd want to break out into multiple mailing lists for individual topics. Links to all of the discussions can be maintained at http://beagleboard.org/discuss.
That said, if you feel the mailing list isn't meeting your needs, I'll happily promote any discussion forums that are active and have people with technical ability monitoring them to help. We could always start frequenting on the forums hosted by TI, https://community.ti.com/forums/32.aspx, which are brand new and still quite quiet for OMAP.
Still, a lot of people on this e-mail list are used to collaborating on e-mail lists like the linux-omap kernel mailing list, Majordomo Lists at VGER.KERNEL.ORG. That said, those people are primarily kernel developers and the Beagle Board should attract a lot of user-land and alternate OS discussion.
Also, if you are quite motivated, you can feel free to offer up another option for forum hosting. My strategy is not to create empty repositories, but instead to create them on an as-needed basis. There are plenty of forum-hosting options depending on feedback from you and others on this mailing list.
See http://www.jonobacon.org/?p=1216 about how creating things can
fragment a community. We already have a mailinglist that seems to work
quite well (if only people would stop top-posting....), and has a
forum-like interface trough googlegroups.
What about a gmane mirror so the nntp crowd (e.g. me) is happy as
well?
Great point Koen. I know everybody wants the perfect tool, but it has to be part of the same conversation as where the community is. I'm quite anxious to think that we will build enough critical mass to start several community projects. The reality is that we still have some way to go, but we're growing quickly.
Can I get a second and third for the gmane mirror idea?

Raises hand
I am a big fan of making information available in whatever format suits
people while resisting the urge to duplicate/fragment things. I also like
gmane :).
