Distro Install - Boot

I’ve installed Debian from:

www.armhf.com

twice now.

Once from Linux.

Once from Windows.

Both times got to the exact same place.

Boots to prompt for user name.

Enter default username / password: debian.

Works.

Trying to get to gui.

Ordinarily startx works.

“command not found”.

So:

  1. Do I HAVE to flash the MMC (something I have ZERO experience with)
    to load the OS?

  2. Is there some other command I should be using?

  3. If I flash the MMC and it stops working, how do I un-flash it back to
    default OS - Angstrom?

  4. Is there a video somewhere that walks the uninitiated noob through this
process from start to finish rather than just something that shows it works
    (which isn’t of much help)?

I’ve booted to the default OS Angstrom just fine - so I’ve got the basic process
of boot down - so it would seem.

I’m guessing if I’m booting to Angstrom, I should be able to boot to any other
OS once it’s properly setup.

  1. So how do I get to that point?

Thanx

"command not found"" aka, command either takes root permissions, or it
is just not installed.. Did you "sudo apt-get install {window manager
of choice}" ? If not, that's why..

Regards,

If you get a login prompt, then the OS is installed. X is not the OS . . . If you search through to comments on http://eewiki.net/display/linuxonarm/BeagleBone+Black you’ll probably find enough information to install LXDE. It is a really simple process. apt-get install . What they all include i am not possitive off hand, but you can bet someone on these groups does. You’ve been talking to one.

I am however curious as to why you’re using armhf.com’s build ?
