Driver needed for 7" LCD with USB touchscreen

Anyone interested in one of these 7" displays (https://
www.xenarcdirect.com/product.php?productid=16194) in exchange for
writing a driver?

There is supposedly a Linux driver already provided by the
manufacturer, but I'm looking for someone to test and push the driver
using a BeagleBoard and just don't have time to do it. I've suggested
to the team (at a university) that perhaps the easiest way to get this
done is to give away one of them to someone else who can do it.

Please respond if you are interested. Remember that I'm only talking
about them giving away 1.

Jason,
I'll take the LCD and provide you a ported, tested driver. How best to proceed?

Hey Jason,

Do you have a winner?

It looks really sweet. I would like to give it a go...

Very nice display, but pretty expensive.

I'll volunteer, if you are still looking for one.

It is my assumption that the job will consist of the following parts:
- getting a good xorg.conf file for the device
- porting/'adaping the touchscreen driver
- supporting the remote control (lirc)
and that it based upon an angstrom/oe environment

I assume the needed video input is only DVI-D (no VGA, no picture in
picture or split screen, but if it can be supported easily I can add
it anyway).

Is there also support needed to flip the image in software?
If I am missing things, please let me know.

I am pretty confident that I can get this done in a reasonable time
frame. Only thing new to me would be the image flip should that be
needed.
If desired we can also agree on incremental delivery if more
convenient for the client.

Anyway, you know my credentials (and I can test this on a rev C board
if that helps).
If desired I can do the task on a no cure/no pay agreement, which
means if I cannot get the job done, I will return the display.

Frans.

PS: if my understanding of the job is incorrect or if you need more
info, do not hesitate to contact me.
If I get/take the assignment, I'd like to have a good understanding
upfront at both sides on what I am going to deliver (as not to waste
my tme or delay the client project needing this).

PPS: off-topic but it would be really really nice if it was possible
to mount the beagleboard inside the case.

Jason,

Care to share how this ended?

Jason,

Care to share how this ended?

Jay tells me he found someone in TI to build and test the driver. Not
exactly the result I'd hoped we'd have, but as long as the driver gets
made public, I'm happy.

True.

Also thanks for bringing this nice board to my attention.

Steps to make this touchscreen work in Angstrom using evtouch driver is documented here, http://elinux.org/Xenarc_USB_touchscreen_for_Beagleboard/OMAP3_EVM

It would be nice if the author of that wiki pushes stuff upstream to OE as well.

Will do. I need to update bb file to automate build of calibrator.c, copy of udev.rules and may be copy of a default xorg.conf as well. That will make it easier to integrate.

To drag out some old cows, I now have an eGalaxy touchscreen as well ( http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.16124 ) and had a look at the driver in OE.
I have integrated the ubuntu patches and will install the extras (calibrator, fdi files and init script) as well to make it a smooth experience. Please let me know if you own such a device and want to test the X driver(s).
