If your whole host system really hangs just because of you are running bitbake
then there's something seriously wrong (e.g. broken hardware) with your
system. That is not a bitbake/OE related issue.

(You are not running bitbake as root, are you?)

Also please note that bitbaking for example x11-image might take up to 8-12
hours.

Hi Antti Seppanen,

The system was behaving properly till before executing bitbake
command.
Now system hangs even at "ls" command execution itself.
Any suggestion to recover my system ?

I am not running bitbake as root. Is there any check to find out
whether it was ran as root ? pls share..
I followed the official instructions http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/building-angstrom

When I run bitbake, I find my system ls occasionally useless because
several python processes run in uninterruptable mpde. I let it build
overnight ( a few nights because fetches kept failing) and it did
eventually finish. Have you tried leaving it running?
