Git help

I'm about to start working on the SPI issues that have been mentioned
on the list over the past few months. It would be helpful if someone
can explain how to do the following operations with git :

1) Create a branch based on a particular rev (the current Angstrom kernel rev)
2) Create a patch against the branch origin
3) Update the branch to a new kernel rev.

Any ideas?

Philip

You can start here:
http://book.git-scm.com/

1 - git checkout -b <new_branch_name> <the start point you want your
new branch tracks>, so probably something like git checkout -b
<your_branch_name> master
2 - man git-format-patch
3 - go on your branch with git checkout <your_branch_name>, then do
git pull (it does a git fetch followed by a git merge with the remote
your branch is tracking)

And you can ask questions on Freenode #git channel.

Hope it helps,
Matthieu.

Step one seems to be (for current Angstrom linux-omap recipe) :

git checkout -b spi-work 45e5c5ffd32ade5a21a5e87b4040072590ec3ae1
