hard drive for beagle?

Anyone have suggestions for a low power hard drive that can be
attached to the Beagle? Powered by USB would be best.

Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill,

Most of the hard drives I've found need an external power source, even
if they are USB. What I've found works well is to get a large high
speed USB flash drive and use that in place of an actual hard drive
(no external power needed, just plug it into the hub). The one I have
hooked up my beagle is a 64GB high speed drive from Patriot, works
great.

Not sure if that is true.
My experience:
3.5" hard drives always require an external power source. (They also
need 12V).
2.5" laptop drives work on USB power, but some require a cable that
connects to two USB ports as some draw more than 500 mA during
starting up.
1.8" drives (like the ones found in ipods with hard disk work like a
charm from USB.
I have a 40GB 1.8" Toshiba here and it works like a charm.

Note that the current u-boot does not allow you to boot from hard
disk. What I did is boot from SD (but you can also use internal flash)
and tell in u-boot that the root filesystem is on an external hard
disk.
