HELP

Hi,

I post this mail because i really need help please.

I have to develop a project : display a video from a webcam, record
webcam in an usb stick, take picture from webcam, and to add date on
video recorded, i need some buttons too.

My first idea was to use opencv, so i have used angstrom with opencv in
it (by builder online) but i have problem with touchscreen click works
only one time, and opencv have an error when function cvCaptureFromCam
is called (invalid id control).

Because by X11 angstrom i don't really need windows i tried to use
opencv without X11 with the same error invalid ...

Try to use opencv 1.1 instead of 2.1 will it be the solution ??

My question is what could be the bette OS to make my project (perhaps
angstrom not), what could be the better software for video management ?

Perhpas android could be the solution. The android on CD works but
camera don't.

I have only one month to realize my project i am very afraid to be late.

Best regards and thanks by advance. I precise that i have a DevKit8000
which is very near beagleboard.

Hi,

You can take a look at GStreamer library integrated with some UI
framework such as for example Qt or clutter. There are examples in
GStreamer how to do it. Gstreamer is also available in Angstrom so it
will simplify the start for you.

Assuming that you have no experience with technologies mentioned
above, I think it is pretty tough schedule. I would suggest to start
thinking about plan B in parallel with your development  .

Good luck,
Andrey.

Yes, you need a fallback plan. If you have a short deadline you probably cannot learn new technologies sufficiently to do a big project. They all take time to learn.

Bob

First of all thank you for your answer, i can search about Gstreamer.
But i am afraid when you say that i have not enough time, because in
fact i had 2 months but i have lost a lot of time with X11 and
devkit8000 to tune touchscreen.

Do you think opencv is correct to use with my project or Gstream is
enough : to display picture, encoding and decoding ?

Hello,

GStreamer would probably be better but I'd take a look at the
project and see if you can use something else as one month is not
achievable if you are new to this. You could look at MPlayer and
recording from that and controlling it from a Python app for example.
Then you can wrap the video playback in a frame/window to add in teh
buttons as I assume you are recording it on the BB/devkit and playing
it on a PC.

Cheers,

Neil
