inotify available?

search for inotify on this board is mostly error output…

  • is it available?
  • Is there something about BBB that makes it incompatible?
  • has anyone compiled from source and got to work?

looked in debian-archive and was unable to find it for stretch… below is from fresh install of bullseye:

debian@BeagleBone:~$ which inotifywait
debian@BeagleBone:~$ sudo apt-get install inotify-tools

We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System
Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:

#1) Respect the privacy of others.
#2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.
