Linux kernel with S-Video

Hi all!

i tried to download the linux kernel from
http://www.bat.org/~tomba/git/linux-omap-dss.git/
and i made the uImage for beagleboard.
But when i booted it, i cant see "omapfb" folder in /sys/devices/
platform/.

Should i patch this file which enable the S-Video?
http://groups.google.com/group/beagleboard/browse_thread/thread/9c0e0e1d168fb791/b9463bfb426fbbc9?lnk=gst&q=S-video#b9463bfb426fbbc9

And, when I patched the file to Linux-omap-dss ,i met many errors both
in patching and compiling.
am i in the wrong way?

Can someone tell me how to made the uImage for output by S-Video?

Thanks a lot!
Liahoo

Can't help you with this and for some reason I have a feeling that
posting roughly the same message 4 times in such a short time interval
will not really help you to get an answer at all.

Hi Frans,

I don’t know if apologizing in advance really serves its purpose, but I (and I assume many other OE/Beagle/EmbeddedLinux beginners like me) am also looking for a one stop solution to getting the S-Video enabled on the BeagleBoard. I have been able to compile the OE kernel as Robert mentioned in a related post (till DSS2 support is integrated in linux-omap). But not sure how to proceed forward…

May I request you to post a beginners step-by-step S-Video enabler guide/instructions, possibly a wiki page which can help us starters to get this support easily.

I understand that the information is already available in various posts (and possibly posted many times) but its kinda scattered and with so many different options, it would be easy if this information is available as one sticky link on the discussion group.

See if thats possible.

You can begin with reading $KERNEDLIR/Documentation/arm/OMAP/DSS.

And please stop top posting.

Sorry for that ! Will take care of this in future.

Hi Frans,

Apologies accepted, just wanted to make you aware that asking in a
proper way has the best chance of success, and that asking too often
after each other will turn people away from helping you.

As I wrote before "Can't help you with this ".
I have no idea how to do so. Sorry.

Frans.

A step by step guide has been posted multiple times to this list *and* there is on in the document Robert pointed you to.

This means that *YOU* now have enough info to start such a wiki page *YOURSELF*, that's how it works in open source projects, people wanting a wiki page start one.

Hi Hu Liang,

I am sanyam agarwal studying in pune. I had seen your mail and also
want to do porting of linux kernel on the beagle board. Could you help
me out in order to do porting as well as in order to find out drivers
of different interfaces attached to beagle board such as audio
driver, MMC card etc...

Hi sanyam,

i haven't tried porting the driver of linux kernel on the beagle
board.
What i known about the S-Video porting need both DSS lib and Video
driver. maybe more others.
So i think just porting the driver source is not enough, other support
maybe needed.
i dont know whether this can help you, i'm also a newbie here...

Best Regards!
Hu Liang.
