Netinstall method

Hello,
I am installing Ubuntu on the Beagleboard-xm. I have followed Netinstall method. I am not able to know whether ubuntu got intalled or not into the SD-card. How I should get to it? My main idea is to install the Ubuntu on beagleboard-xm and then connect is to projector via HDMI-VGA cable. And whenever if we need to give power point presentations then we can directly connect the pendrive(in which you have the file) to the beagleboard-xm and give the presentation.

The following are the steps I followed by inserting the SD-card in the host computer. I request you to please view the steps.

The "Netinstall" got flashed to the SD-card, nothing more... So Plug
in your new SD-card into the board and boot with it.. Thus completing
the install yourself..

'HDMI-VGA cable' no such adapter will work on the xM..

Example: Amazon.com
From Notes: "NOTE: this cable don't support signal from VCR, COMPUTER
or LAPTOP output."

aka: it's a custom cable for someone's custom non-spec hdmi out design.

Regards,

Thank you sir,
1.Can I use “HDMI to VGA converter” device instead of “HDMI-VGA cable”.?

2.What are the other useful projects can I do by installing Ubuntu on beagle board?

The last time i looked at the active adapters, it was cheaper to just
get a used lcd..

Regards,

I am installing Ubuntu on the Beagleboard-xm. I have followed Netinstall method. I got HDMI to DVI cable. I have started booting by inserting SD card on to beagleboard-xm. It is asking for “Configure the network”. Here there are two options

  1. etho: Ethernet
    2.usb0: USB net

Since I have connected the beagleboard-xm and my host computer with USB OTG cable , I have selected “Usb0:USB net”.
But it is giving an error as follows:
