I just wanted to let everyone know that NthPlayer Alpha5 for BeagleBoard (and the ICETEK OMAP3) is out.
If you aren't familiar with our NthPlayer Internet media stack for consumer electronics, you can read all about it at nthplayer.nthcode.com.
New in this release:
- HTML5 WebApp/Widget support completed
- Faster boot time
- Faster menu navigation
- USB Bluetooth dongle hotplug support added
- Improved user interface
What are HTML5 WebApps? HTML5 WebApps provide a super-easy way for content providers to create applications for televisions and other electronic devices running NthPlayer. All developers need to do is put their HTML, CSS, and JavaScript into a ZIP file that users download from NthPlayer's browser. From there, NthPlayer installs the apps in its Applications menu. Check out the HP12W and WeatherUnderground applications included in this release.
This release does not include DSP video decoder support. Don't worry, it's on the list. There are just higher priorities at the moment. We'll get to it!
This looks very interesting.
I just downloaded it and had a peek at the image (couldn't test it yet
as I'm not near my beagle)
A few questions:
Is this build with openembedded? Is it angstrom?
Would it be possible to install additional software from e.g. the angstrom feed?
What kernel are you using? I saw it was 2.6.29 but is this with
special patches? Do you care to share the config file?
Rationale for asking is that I probably would like to amend the image
(if needed) with file serving functionality (and maybe uPnP playback
if it is not there).
Will alpha 6 support C4 hw? (guess this one does not).
Wnat about interfacing with webcams and tv input (either dvb streams
or mpeg from an analog tuner with mpeg encoder).
And is it possible to add own applications (e.g. an rss browser if it
does not exist yet).

Firefox 3.5 here. The page is chock full of invalid HTML, so I'm not
blaming the browser.
