ntpd not setting time despite -g option

If I run nptdate ntp.pool.org then I get the correct time.

I thought with ntpd -g (with is how the Angstrom Bone A6 runs ntpd) it was
supposed to do a one-time big adjustment at startup. But it doesn't seem
to and the clock is weeks off even with ntpd installed.

Ideas?

Thanks,
Britton
