Query about HDMI connector

HI Folks,

I recently got a Beagle board. I bought a HDMI DVI connector. The DVI
connector is of Dual link type. I couldn't get a DVI-D Single link
type. Will this work with Beagle?

It will be fine as long as you are connecting to a single digital destination and don't try to split or use analog.

Yes i am connecting to a monitor with DVI input.
Thanks for the info.

I have a CRT monitor. So will a HDMI to VGA converter work?.I read at
one place that the DVI-D output of beagle doesn't contain the analog
signals needed for such converters to work. Is that correct or should
i proceed buying one such connector?

Nope. It won’t.

Beagle provides only DVI signals through the HDMI connector. It doesn’t provide the analog signal, that would be required for the HDMI to VGA to work.

The system reference manual has all the necessary details. Its pretty comprehensive in these matters.

Is there even such a things as an HDMI to VGA converter? If there is,
it will work, since HDMI never carries analogue signals, so a
converter would have to contain the necessary DACs etc.

So it means that if there is no HDMI to VGA converter available, there
is no way to connect beagle to a CRT monitor?

Did you use a Converter or just a connector?

If your monitor has digital input, then you just need a simple adapter
like the one mentioned on Digi-Key's Beagleboard page.

If your monitor is analog, then you need an HDMI to VGA (or whatever)
converter. There is at least one company that makes such an
converter. http://www.hdfury.com/ It is not cheap, but there are
places you can buy the previous rev of the converter at a good
discount. Use Google's shopping search to find these places. Note, I
do not have such an adapter, and I cannot say whether or not it works
well, if at all.
