[RFC] Multiple devices on BeagleBoard expansion bus

gerald,

there only time the muxing needs to be used is when reading the
eeproms, but it is really just an example implementation.

are you looking at doing something similar or identical to the arduino
shield configuration?

basically setup the headers to use the arduino shields?

Dave

Yes the mux is set once, but the issue is when two cards want the mux to be set differently. In some cases, cards may be damaged if the wrong setting is used.

I have not really dug too deep into the shields. In essence what we are talking about is defining a new bus/connector anyway, so it seems to me to be worth looking at the ability to make is shieldable. On the other hand, a new class of shield type boards I think should be on the table as well…

Gerald

gerald,

seems like if the goal is to provide easy use of expansion to the
point of "plug and play", would it not make sense to use a
configuration that is compatible with arduino so that you can take
advantage of the wide range of existing shields?

Dave

It does make sense as long as we can provide 100% compatability.
