Running Ubuntu on Beagle board

Hi,

I am trying to install Ubuntu on SD card using the method specified in
"http://elinux.org/BeagleBoardUbuntu#Manual_Method". While compiling
the ROOTFS i am getting many errors. I could not able to succeed. I
have tried to build ubuntu-desktop, xubuntu, lxde but i could not able
to succeed. Can anyone please respond to my below queries.

1. Is it possible to run Ubuntu on Beagle board
2. Can i get the ROOTFS image (downloadable). Any link?

Please help me.

Thanks
Srinivas

1. Yes. What error's are you getting and would you pastebin your
*.log file generated by the build-arm-rootfs script?

Regards,

Hi,

Here is the log file contents.

Hi,

I just threw this up on pastebin: http://pastebin.com/m7643521b

What OS/Distribution are you running this script with?
(I've tested it with Ubuntu 8.10/9.04 & Debian Squeeze)

Couple Notes:

Line 1264, Network failure thru Qemu, do you have any firewall's setup
or multiple connections?

Regards,

Hi,

My OS distro: 9.04 & there are no firewalls setup for my network
connection.
"wget " is working for me without any problem.

Thanks
Srinivas

Since qemu isn't able to find the network, drop the "--seed package"
option from the command line. This should create a bare minimal root
file system. (testing as we speak)

sudo ./build-arm-rootfs --fqdn beagleboard --login ubuntu --password
temppwd --imagesize 2G

Regards,

Hi,

I could able to build xubuntu-desktop. But now i am unable to fetch
the below files. I am getting proxy timeout error.

wget http://www.rcn-ee.com/deb/kernel/CC-v2.6.28-79d042a-oer17
wget http://www.rcn-ee.com/deb/kernel/boot-scr/ubuntu-ext3.scr
wget http://www.rcn-ee.com/deb/kernel/boot-scr/ubuntu-ext2.scr

Is there any other way to download the same.

Thanks
Srinivas

Try again, I just checked and the server's up. It's hosted wherever
micfo.com hosts their servers and should be world accessible..

Hi Robert Nelson,

I am able to run the Ubuntu on my beagle board  . Thanks alot for
the help.
I have one more query. I want to run Ubuntu from Flash. Can you please
provide me the steps for running Ubuntu from Flash.

Thanks & Regards
Srinivas

Good to hear!

Sorry, I haven't had a need in my applications/projects to utilize the
flash yet, but your welcome to edit the wiki page if you figure it
out. Note, there is only 256Mb of Nandflash on the beagleboard so
you'll have to choose your packages very carefully to not exceed this
limit.

Hints:

You can use "sudo apt-get clean" to remove all archived *.deb packages
from the file system to save space.

Regards,

Hi,

Is it possible to build jffs2 file system using "./build-arm-rootfs"?
Please let me know.

Thanks & Regards
Srinivas

Nope, ./build-arm-rootfs only spits out a tar/gz file, so it's up to
you to untar it and generate a jffs2 image.

Google found: http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/gutsy/man1/mkfs.jffs2.1.html
