Switching USB-devices (harddisk) on and off while plugged in ?

Hi,

is it possible to electrically switch off an unmounted USB-device (in this case
an external USB-harddisk) while it is stiff plugged in (BBB) ?

How?

SW should be able to do it. Turn off the power. Whether or not this feature is supported in SW, I cannot say.

Nope It is inside the USB controller. This is not controlled via GPIO pin. You need to see what is supported in the driver.
