Sorry, just got back from town. You’re saying we’re going to have to write our own device tree files ? I figured this would work with existing 3.8.x device tree capes . . .
The post where you linked to panto’s stuff provides information on all this ? I have like a million questions( figuratively ) . . .
@Charles
Not a complaint, but a concern. I noticed the current universal-io script was written with dash in mind. Typically, when I configure a new image the very first thing I do is sudo dpkg-reconfigure dash → No. To disable dash . . . as it gives me grief with some ( can’t remember which ) development tools. Anyway, just putting that out there. For whatever it’s worth.

No, most from v3.8.x should just work with gpio fixup's. However there
are some capes without eeprom, and not sure how to handle the lcd's
<today>.

Trying to document the basic's here..
haven't figured out how to properly force a cape in a slot...

woah boy, slow down lol.
How big is the linux-dev git, and this is meant to run on a cross system I'm
assuming ?If you have instructions somewhere that would be awesome. . . .
As soon as Jason get's http://builds.beagleboard.org/builders
operational again..
I installed the tools in /opt. I will add them to the path later.
Sweet! Thanks Jason!

OK, I have no idea how, or why but my 4GB sdcard (3.6G ) is completely full . . . console image, with just two kernels on it . . . so I need to check and see wtf is going on here before I can continue.

Or maybe this is somehow on my end ?

I pushed an update when added stretch/wily this week.. (the existing
key was going to expire soon, the new key doesn't.. )
Regards,
Been trying to run update first it keep error’n out on your repo listing. Let me try again . . .
if that still fails:
sudo dpkg -i rcn*.deb
Regards,
hah ! I should have thought of that. Ok . . .fixated on the problem again, not the end goal . . .
OK, all worky now.
So, time frame on cape manager enabled 4.x ? Long time ? soonish ?
Funny story . . . My disk full problem earlier . . . Was playing with USB HDD swap files, and somehow the last one landed on the sdcard mount point /media/swap. heh . . . ooops!
OK, all worky now.
Here's an *.deb image from today's progress (the serial overlays work)

Well, right now, it's default for v4.1.x-rc3...
Panto's pushing to get it mainline, so we are going to do what we can
do to test.

Ouch!

OK, pulling it in now, give me a day or two to test. As I’ll have to build a development image, and compile can-utils to make sure it works On top of every day work, sharing a single can cape, etc, etc.
Hopefully the device tree file works straight off, without any modifications. Should I report my findings here ?
Anyone else wanting to test that deb image, I’d hold off for a few until I work out if its my configuration or the deb that somehow fails. I’m getting stuck at USR LED on solid after a short “blinkie” pattern blink.
USR LED 2 on solid that is.
You know me.. i broke someting..
fixed:
linux-image-4.1.0-rc2-capemgr-r5_1cross_armhf.deb
same base address.
